A man accused of dragging a Massachusetts State Police trooper with his car during a traffic stop in Brockton appeared in court Friday.

Troopers stopped a car driven by Derek Lobo, 31, of Brockton, on Montello Street for motor vehicle violations on Wednesday, officials said.

Dashcam video shows two troopers talking to the Lobo, who has his driver's side door open. Lobo drives as one of the troopers clings to the door.

The trooper was able to free himself, get up and rush back to his cruiser to chase after the suspect.

Lobo was arrested the following day at his home on Union Street. He faces a number of charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, operating without a driver's license and trafficking fentanyl.

The trooper who was dragged suffered minor injuries.

Lobo was arraigned in Brockton District Court and held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Deputy Feliciano was on patrol in City of Deltona, Florida around 2 a.m. when he spotted 3 young men in black clothing, one wearing a ski mask.

When the deputy stopped to talk to them, they took off running.

A 15-year-old wearing the ski mask gave up a short distance away, and admitted he was carrying a knife. The other two ran the opposite direction.

As deputies set up a perimeter in the area and called in support from K-9 and Air One, both were apprehended.

Upon their arrests, two firearms were recovered from those subjects, both 16 years of age.

One was carrying a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun reported stolen out of DeLand.

The other had a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun found in the area where he was hiding, along with a box of 9mm hollow point ammunition and black gloves.

Each defendant was charged with loitering and prowling, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting arrest without violence. One was additionally charged with grand theft of a firearm and another was also charged with battery on a police animal for kicking K-9 Toki in the face during his apprehension.

George Wallace Assassination Attempt (1972)

On May 15, 1972, he was shot four times by Arthur Bremer while campaigning at the Laurel Shopping Center in Laurel, Maryland, at a time when he was receiving high ratings in national opinion polls. Bremer was seen at a Wallace rally in Wheaton, Maryland, earlier that day and two days earlier at a rally in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Wallace was hit in the abdomen and chest, and one of the bullets lodged in Wallace's spinal column, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life. A five-hour operation was needed that evening, and Wallace had to receive several units of blood to survive. Three others who were wounded in the shooting also survived. The shooting and Wallace's subsequent injuries put an effective end to his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. The assassination attempt was caught on film.

Bremer's diary, An Assassin's Diary, published after his arrest, shows he was motivated in the assassination attempt by a desire for fame, not by political ideology. He had considered President Nixon an earlier target. He was convicted at trial. On August 4, 1972, Bremer was sentenced to 63 years in prison, later reduced to 53 years. Bremer served 35 years and was released on parole on November 9, 2007.
