The investigation concluded that the driver Calvert Campbell, 59, "failed to apply the brake and instead accidentally accelerated through the intersection."

The Marquette Wire obtained the security footage from the Marquette University Police Department that shows the incident.

MCTS said their conclusion was also partially based on that footage, during which the brake lights on the bus never illuminate.

According to MCTS mechanics and an independent engineer, the bus was working properly at the time of the incident. The statement from MCTS includes this analysis from Jeff Peterson, the independent engineer from Skogen Engineering Group: "No mechanical defects were found during our inspection of the bus that pre-existed the accident."

At the time of the accident five passengers were on the bus. Three passengers and Campbell reported minor injuries that were non-life-threatening.

As for Campbell, he is being taken off the road for at least six months. During that period he will be part of the team that services the buses at night. At the end of the six months, MCTS said he will be reevaluated.

Prior to this accident, Campbell drove for 12 years without any accidents.

Johnston Hall, the oldest building on campus, houses the Diederich College of Communication. The crash caused damage to the northwest entrance. Marquette University hired a restoration team that specializes in historical structures to repair the façade masonry and stained-glass window.

The restoration is underway this summer, and the university predicts it will be completed by the time fall classes start.

American Idol Alum Mandisa's Cause of Death Was 'Complications from Obesity' — Here's What That Really Means

The Grammy-winning singer's cause of death wasn't obesity specifically, it was due to complications caused by the condition

American Idol alum Mandisa was only 47 when she was found dead at her home in April

Her cause of death was determined to be complications from class III obesity, which Dr. Nisha Parikh, assistant director for women's heart health at Northwell, says can cause multiple life-threatening health issues

Parikh explains some of the potential complications due to obesity, including diabetes, heart issues, and blood clots

American Idol alum and Grammy winner Mandisa was only 47 she was found dead at her home in April. The cause of death was later determined to be complications from class III obesity.

"Obesity is definitely associated with premature deaths," Dr. Nisha Parikh, assistant director for women's heart health at Northwell tells PEOPLE. However, it's "probably not the obesity itself directly causing death in most cases, but rather the different conditions that obesity is associated with such as high blood pressure, diabetes, alterations in cholesterol, dyslipidemia (high cholesterol); obesity also predisposes to heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and even arrhythmias."

As Parikh tells PEOPLE, the higher the class of obesity, the more severe the risks.

While authorities did not disclose the specific obesity complication that caused Mandisa's death, Parikh explains, "Your risk of heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and also even blood clots are, or could be, another sort of theoretical cause of of dying from an obesity-related condition."

Blood clots are a concern, she says, because "with obesity, some people can develop less robust muscles that allow the veins to pump the blood back to the heart. Some obese individuals tend to be a little bit less mobile and so they're not moving around as much. That sedentary activity can lead to the blood clot formation as well."

If you're concerned about your weight, Parikh says, "See your doctor first and foremost."

"Women in particular, our studies have shown, tend to go to the doctor less when we are overweight, or certainly even obese — we're like, 'Let me lose, you know, 5 or 10 lbs., and then I'll go see my doctor because I want my numbers to look good.' "

"I would counsel women to just stop that kind of thinking, because as physicians, we want to see you right now."

And apart from obesity as an individual problem, Parikh says, "We have to really think of this more as a societal problem, because we live in an obesogenic society. Taking a look at ourselves is really important, as a society thinking about how we got here is really important, and the steps we could do to change it."

"We have to hold accountable the different sources of food that we have available to us," she added. "And ask for better built environment — so more green spaces for walking, safe spaces for us to walk and to get exercise."

"Those are the types of things that we can advocate for," she said. "Looking at it with a public health lens is also important."

NY Times Editorial Board calls on Biden to drop out of 2024 presidential race 'to serve his country'

NY Post:

The New York Times editorial board called on President Biden to step aside as the presumptive Democratic nominee in the 2024 presidential race Friday, one day after his abysmal performance in a debate against Donald Trump.

While insisting that Biden, 81, had been an "admirable president," the liberal Grey Lady concluded the incumbent appeared on the debate stage as "the shadow of a great public servant" and would be engaging in a "reckless gamble" by continuing his candidacy.

"There is no reason for the party to risk the stability and security of the country by forcing voters to choose between Mr. Trump's deficiencies and those of Mr. Biden," the board wrote. "It's too big a bet to simply hope Americans will overlook or discount Mr. Biden's age and infirmity that they see with their own eyes."

"Mr. Biden answered an urgent question on Thursday night. It was not the answer that he and his supporters were hoping for," the Times concluded. "But if the risk of a second Trump term is as great as he says it is — and we agree with him that the danger is enormous — then his dedication to this country leaves him and his party only one choice."

New York Times Editorial Board Calls On Biden To Leave Race

America's most influential newspaper, The New York Times, called in an editorial Friday for President Joe Biden to step aside and allow another Democrat to challenge Donald Trump for the White House in November.

Describing Biden as "the shadow of a great public servant," the newspaper's editorial board -- which is separate from its newsroom -- said Thursday's debate between the president and Trump proved the 81-year-old "failed his own test."

His determination to run again is a "reckless gamble," it said, adding: "the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election."

Joe Biden Savaged by New York Times Editorial Board: 'Leave the Race'

The New York Times editorial board has joined calls for President Joe Biden to step down as the Democratic's nominee before November.

An op-ed published by the newspaper Friday was in reaction to the president's performance during the first presidential debate of the 2024 season the night prior, where Biden faced former President Donald Trump since the first time the two candidates ran for office in 2020.

The editorial board wrote that Biden "has said that he is the candidate with the best chance of taking on" the "threat" the Trump poses to American democracy, and acknowledged the president's victory four years ago over the presumptive GOP nominee.

"His argument rests largely on the fact that he beat Mr. Trump in 2020," read the op-ed. "That is no longer a sufficient rationale for why Mr. Biden should be the Democratic nominee this year."

"At Thursday's debate, the president needed to convince the American public that he was equal to the formidable demands of the office he is seeking to hold for another term," the editorial border continued. "Voters, however, cannot be expected to ignore what was instead plain to see: Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago."
