A neighbor filmed a terrifying shootout between Charlotte police and two gunmen in a blitz of bullets that left four officers dead and another four injured.

A livestream shared by Saing Chhoeun on Facebook shows two heavily armed cops taking cover behind a vehicle as they engage in a gun battle on Monday.

The video begins with the terrified neighbor seemingly locked outside his house and asking someone to let him in.

The officers repeatedly ask the neighbor to go inside the home, but he informs them he can't because he does not have the keys.

The shooting happened as four officers were serving a warrant for felon Terry Clark Hughes, who was wanted for possessing a firearm and shot dead in the gun battle.

Samuel 'Sam' Polche, William 'Alden' Elliot and Charlotte police officer Joshua Eyer died Monday following the horror shooting as they tried to serve warrant. Both Polche and Elliot were North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections officers working with the US Marshal's office.

Press Release

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, April 30, 2024) – Today, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department provided an update on Monday's tragic attack on law enforcement officers in the North Tryon Division. CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings released the names and conditions of the four CMPD officers wounded in the incident. U.S. Marshals Service Director Ronald Davis released the identity of the fourth officer killed in the line of duty.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks died in the hospital from his gunshot wound injuries. He was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Office. CMPD Officer Christopher Tolley, hired in May of 2006, underwent surgery to treat his gunshot wound injuries and remains in the hospital in stable condition. CMPD Officer Michael Giglio, hired in February of 2021, was treated for gunshot wound injuries and released from the hospital Monday. CMPD Officer Jack Blowers, hired in February of 2023, was also treated for his gunshot wound injuries and was released from the hospital Monday. CMPD Officer Justin Campbell, hired in June of 2020, sustained injuries resulting in a broken foot. Officer Campbell was treated and released from the hospital Tuesday morning.

CMPD was joined at a press conference this morning by the U.S. Marshals Office, the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Western District, Governor Roy Cooper, Attorney General Josh Stein, Mayor Vi Lyles and the City of Charlotte.

CMPD's Crime Scene Investigation Unit and detectives worked through the night processing the crime scene in the 5000 block of Galway Drive in the North Tryon Division. During the investigation, a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle, 40-caliber handgun and additional magazines and ammo for both weapons were recovered on scene.

Two females inside the residence were brought in on Monday, April 29, to be interviewed by detectives. They are fully cooperating with the investigation. Detectives are not looking for any additional suspects or persons of interest.

Preliminary information indicates that 12 CMPD officers fired their service weapon. All 12 of those officers are on paid, administrative leave. As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the CMPD's Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation.

The officers involved in yesterday's shooting incident are a part of the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force (CRFTF), which began operations in January of 2018. The investigation into this incident is being conducted by the CMPD's Homicide Unit. This is an active and ongoing investigation.

As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. For additional information in reference to this case, please refer to the report: 20240429-1333-00.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Investigators on Wednesday continued working to piece together the timeline of a deadly shooting in east Charlotte that killed four officers and left four others with gunshot wounds, rocking the law enforcement community nationwide and spurring an outpouring of support for the officers and their families.

Civic and religious leaders are asking the community for patience, love and grace as they grapple with the fallout of the deaths: Four families who have lost a husband and a father.

Officials have declined to discuss the specifics of the incident, including whether it was appropriate for law enforcement to engage in a lengthy gun battle in the middle of a neighborhood in the middle of the day.

"We do, like a number of cities across this country, have issues around violence. But I think most of the time we can identify why and how," Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said Tuesday night following a community prayer vigil. "In this situation, I think once they finish the investigation, we will probably know more about the how and the why. And my goal is that we complete the investigation, we actually learn from what is going on and that we move forward together."

CHILD WARNING EFFORTPOST Gwangju Uprising

The Gwangju Uprising stands as a pivotal chapter in South Korea's modern history, reflecting the enduring struggle for democracy amidst the turbulence of authoritarian rule. Originating in May 1980, the uprising emerged as a spontaneous response to the oppressive military dictatorship of Chun Doo-hwan, who seized power in a coup d'Γ©tat following the assassination of President Park Chung-hee.

At its core, the uprising was fueled by a deep-seated resentment against the extension of martial law and the arbitrary suppression of civil liberties. What began as a peaceful protest led by students quickly snowballed into a mass movement, drawing support from various sectors of society disillusioned with the regime's authoritarian grip.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1714755409863147.webp https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1714755410557683.webp

Gwangju, a city known for its strong sense of regional identity and history of political activism, became the focal point of resistance. The citizens of Gwangju, galvanized by a shared sense of injustice and a desire for democratic change, took to the streets in unprecedented numbers, demanding accountability and reform.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17147554121181715.webp

The response from the Chun Doo-hwan regime was swift and ruthless. Military forces were deployed to quell the uprising, leading to violent clashes and bloodshed on the streets of Gwangju. Reports of indiscriminate shootings, arbitrary arrests, and widespread human rights abuses shocked the nation and garnered international attention.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17147554126192436.webp https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1714755411236729.webp

Despite the overwhelming force arrayed against them, the people of Gwangju displayed remarkable resilience and solidarity. For several days, they stood their ground, barricading streets, organizing makeshift defenses, and defiantly confronting the military forces sent to suppress them.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17147554128294492.webp https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17147554138976212.webp

However, on May 27, 1980, the military launched a final assault on Gwangju, unleashing a wave of violence that brought the uprising to a tragic end. The city was forcibly seized, and order was restored through brute force, but not without significant loss of life and untold suffering.

The exact toll of the Gwangju Uprising remains a subject of debate, with estimates of casualties varying widely. While official figures downplayed the extent of the violence, eyewitness accounts and survivor testimonies paint a harrowing picture of the human cost of the uprising, with hundreds killed, thousands injured, and countless more subjected to imprisonment and torture.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17147569425757353.webp https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1714756946540643.webp

In the aftermath of the Gwangju Uprising, the wounds inflicted upon the city and its people ran deep, but the spirit of resistance endured. The events of May 1980 served as a rallying cry for democracy and galvanized a new generation of activists determined to bring about change.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17147554124457283.webp https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1714755412512402.webp

The legacy of the Gwangju Uprising looms large in South Korea's collective memory, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the struggle for freedom and democracy. It remains a testament to the enduring power of ordinary people to resist oppression and to demand a better future for themselves and future generations.
