Robert Budd Dwyer (November 21, 1939 – January 22, 1987) was an American politician who served as the 30th state treasurer of Pennsylvania. He served from 1965 to 1971 as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and from 1971 to 1981 as a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate representing the state's 50th district. Dwyer then served as the 30th treasurer of Pennsylvania from January 20, 1981, to January 22, 1987, when he committed suicide during a live press conference.

Dwyer was convicted on political corruption charges, prior to his sentencing he arranged a press conference and handed out letters to his staff before pulling out a .357 magnum from an envelope and putting in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of an under-construction building in Chhattisgarh's Raipur city on Monday. In a video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, onlookers can be heard shouting in the background trying to prevent the suicide bid, even as the teen in school uniform prepared to jump from the building. The incident took place in Boriya Khurd area under Tikrapara police station limits in the afternoon, City Superintendent of Police (Tikrapara area) Rajesh Chaudhary said. The Class 9 student jumped from the sixth floor of the building and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead, he said. No suicide note was found and further probe is underway, the official said. According to eyewitnesses, the girl stood on the edge of a balcony for some time before jumping to death.

On August 31, 2020, McNutt began a livestream on the social media website Facebook. His best friend, Joshua Steen, encountered the stream. He did not initially find it unusual, as McNutt had routinely done livestreams in the past, but he became alarmed when he realized that McNutt was intoxicated and holding a rifle. Steen allegedly attempted to intervene numerous times, particularly when McNutt misfired the rifle, hoping that Facebook would cut off the stream and end the video feed, preventing people from seeing into McNutt's home while Steen sought police intervention. Facebook refused to cut the stream, claiming that the stream was not in any violation of its platform's guidelines. As the stream went on, McNutt's mobile phone rang frequently. The last call he received was from his ex-girlfriend to which he answered, leading to a brief argument between the two. Immediately after McNutt would hang the phone up on her, he exclaimed "Hey guys, I guess that's it." before proceeding to fatally shoot himself under the chin, prompting his friend's pet dog to wander into the room. The stream was captured by multiple attending parties. The New Albany Police Department was called to the scene during the livestream, but did not enter McNutt's apartment until after he had died. Police Chief Chris Robertson had secured the perimeter, evacuating nearby residents and attempting to communicate with McNutt via speakerphone, to no avail.

A final message by Ronnie McNutt was later discovered on Facebook, declaring, "Someone in your life needs to hear that they matter. That they are loved. That they have a future. Be the one to tell them".

Two days after his suicide, McNutt was buried in Snowdown Church of Christ Cemetery in Prentiss County, Mississippi.

The video was shared on social media, particularly on Facebook. The resulting publicity brought an outpouring of online support and attention to the issues of suicide causes and prevention, child abuse, bullying, and appropriate use of social media.

A 17-year old girl committed suicide by jumping off a high rise building in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning after reportedly failing to qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) whose results were declared on Monday.

According to the police, Jasleen Kaur Saluja of Barkatpura area in Kacheguda, reached the Kushal Towers in the busy Abids Centre at around 10am, parked her two-wheeler in the parking lot and straightaway walked upstairs to the terrace of the 10-storeyed building.

She jumped off the building, even as onlookers were screamed at her against doing so.

Her father Ranveer Singh, a businessman in the city, told the police that his elder daughter Jasleen was depressed ever since the NEET results were out.

“She did not talk to anybody even this morning. She left home with a gloomy face and as usual, we thought she went out to meet her friends,” he said.

Abids police sub-police inspector K Lakshmaiah said the CCTV footage showed the girl taking the stairs around 10am. “Some of the people standing on the ground floor saw the girl getting ready to jump and shouted to her against doing so. But, she did not listen,” he said.

The police official said the parents did not fault her for not qualifying in the eligibility test, but she was upset. She left home saying she was going to meet a friend.

It took nearly two hours for the police to establish Jasleen's identity because she wasn't carrying any identification papers of cards.

Police found the key of her two-wheeler on the terrace and succeeded in tracing her vehicle which eventually helped in finding out her identity and address.
