Uttarakhand news: The superstition of a seven-year-old child's parents that a dip in the Ganga River could cure their son of cancer cost a child his life in Haridwar on Wednesday (January 24), police said. The boy's parents kept chanting mantras on the banks of Har ki Pauri while his aunt allegedly dipped him repeatedly in the Ganga ignoring his loud cries, until he suffocated and died, they added.

Bystanders tried to stop the woman but she refused to listen to them, the police said. Eyewitnesses reported the incident to the police, SHO of the Har ki Pauri police station Bhavna Kainthola said. The child's parents and aunt have been held for interrogation, the SHO said.

The boy was suffering from blood cancer and resided with his parents in Delhi, she said. He died of drowning, the SHO said, adding that further inquiry into the case is underway.

A Nicaraguan man's tragic drowning was captured on camera Sunday - the result of a failed bid to illegally cross the Mexico - United States border.

C.R, 53, and his friend E.C, 42, were seen struggling to stay afloat as the Rio Grande's current picked up strength between Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and Eagle Pass, Texas.

A news camera crew spotted C, a former radio host, hanging on to a concrete column in the middle of the river while R. battled the current and tried to keep his head above water. He later went under as Texas National Guard soldiers looked on.

He left his family behind in December 2021 after he received death threats for covering an government demonstration and was among several migrants who paid a smuggler $3,000 to be taken to Piedras Negras, Coahuila, in order to reach Texas

R. was swept down the international waterway and his body found near an islet further down the river.

C. somehow continued on and made it to a second set of concrete pillars under a bridge, where he sat on top of a tree branch.

woman drowns under banana boat on vacation in egypt 🇪🇬

The final moments of a British grandmother who drowned on holiday in Egypt have been caught in a devastating video showing her being flung off a banana boat.

Janice Bowles' daughter screamed ‘She's dead, she's dead' as she pleaded with her mum to wake up after the boat flipped and sent passengers "flying in different directions."

The 58-year-old had been on a Thomas Cook trip to Hurghada with her two daughters and other family members when tragedy struck on August 28.

Footage, taken by the family, shows her on the inflatable with a group of five others as they are towed by a boat in the sea.

Mum-of-two Ms Bowles, from Bristol, can be seen sat at the front behind daughter Hannah Barcroft, 36.

In the clip, the driver encourages the group to wave their hands in their air - something Ms Bowles does not do - before the boat picks up speed and flips on its side.

Screaming, shouting and pleading for help, daughter Hannah then watched in horror as her mother gasped for breath.

Beyond 57 metres, divers face oxygen toxicity, a condition particularly pertinent to those venturing to conquer the arch. Symptoms include tunnel vision, tingling sensations, and, in severe cases, seizures or fainting that can result in drowning.

One tragic case in the Blue Hole's history is that of Yuri Lipski, a diving instructor who entered its depths in the year 2000 and never came back. His helmet camera recovered later, provided insights into his ill-fated dive. The footage revealed that, at approximately 91 metres, nitrogen narcosis took hold, causing Yuri to sink to the depths of the Blue Hole.

This has been posted here in the past, but its good and maybe there's a few who haven't seen it yet.

The Buffalo Police Department Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team pulled two bodies from the Niagara River at the Foot of Ferry Monday afternoon.

Crews pulled 29-year-old Mario Guthrie and 46-year-old Scott Vater, both of Buffalo, from the river.

In a news conference, police said the two men entered the water near a circular current of water.

Buffalo Police Dept. Captain Jeff Rinaldo said one of the men was trying to recover some driftwood and began to struggle, and the other man tried to help

An eyewitness told News 4, the one man told her he collected driftwood to make furniture. He was getting read to jump in to retrieve a piece floating in the river when another man offered to jump in for him.

“He jumped in and it was clear he wasn't a strong swimmer,” said witness, Christina Williams.

Williams says the man in the water had a rope tied to his wrist while the other man held the other end at shore. At one point the short rope wasn't enough so the man released it so he could grab the driftwood. The other man, at shore, jumped in to save him, but witnesses say they struggled to stay above water.

“It was only a couple of seconds before they both just sunk like rocks. There was nothing we could've done, I mean my mom was screaming at me not to jump in, I almost went in, I mean they would've sunk me like a stone,” said Williams.

Within minutes Williams says the Buffalo Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team were on the scene. Crews searched a little over an hour after the two men went under.

The recovery comes less than a year after Buffalo Police Lt. Craig Lehner died in a training accident in the same spot of the Niagara River.

Captain Jeff Rinaldo with Buffalo Police told reporters during a news conference Monday that swift water is very dangerous, unsupervised and even experienced divers such as Lt. Lehner can die in these conditions.

“There's different currents that flow especially when you get into eddy currents that will pull you towards the wall and then suck you out into the river as well as pull you down, it's not safe under any type of circumstance,” said Capt. Rinaldo.

Rinaldo stressed the importance of not jumping in after anyone in dangerous waters. He says to try to find a stick for them to grab onto and call for help.

Officials say the first instinct in swift water is to try to drown the person helping you, but the chance of both surviving are slim.
