TULSA, Okla. -- An Oklahoma police officer is on paid leave after he used his patrol car to kill a woman as she exchanged gunfire with other officers.

The Tulsa Police Department says Officer Jonathan Grafton intentionally struck 21-year-old Madison Sueann Dickson on Saturday as she fired at Officer Kayla Johnson and Det. Ronnie Leatherman.

Police have said Dickson was wanted in four gun-related incidents, including shooting a man in the head. Officers spotted her as she climbed into a pickup truck near an apartment complex. Dickson, the passenger, jumped out of the truck and was firing at the officers when Grafton hit her with his vehicle.

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. —

A woman who was armed with a knife was shot and killed by Nevada County deputies Thursday afternoon, according to the district attorney’s office.

The Nevada County Regional Dispatch Center received a call around 1 p.m. about a person walking in the middle of Alta Sierra Drive with two small children, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said.

Both children are believed to be under 5 years old, officials said. Their relationship to the woman is unknown.

The sheriff’s office said the reporting parties told officials the adult was possibly under the influence.

Two deputies were able to make contact with the woman, and at some point, one of the deputies fired his service weapon five times. The woman died after the shooting, officials said.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

Officials said the children are both with Child Protective Services and are unharmed.

Grass Valley resident Joslin Quist was in her backyard playing with her four young boys when she said she heard a commotion out front.

"I kept hearing more shouting and then I started hearing kids screaming, like little kids screaming," Quist explained.

She lives a few houses away from the intersection where the shooting happened. Quist explains that what she heard next scared her.

"I hear four gunshots, so I like got really scared and rushed the kids inside, and said guys get inside right now," Quist said.

At about 4:30 p.m., the Nevada County District Attorney's Office released a statement saying it would be taking over the investigation.

"The District Attorney's Office will be investigating the shooting to determine if the force used was justified and lawful," the Nevada County District's Attorney Office said on Facebook.

"We believe there was only one deputy sheriff who was involved in the shooting itself," said Assistant District Attorney Chris Walsh. "This is a preliminary estimate, but we believe there was five shots that were fired. We do believe from the preliminary information that we have, that the decedent was armed with a knife, and that's what resulted in the shooting."

Walsh confirmed the Nevada County Sheriff's Office does not have body cameras for its deputies but dashcam video does exist.

"We haven't had the opportunity yet to carefully go through that footage, but we have confirmed it does exist, and in the next hours or couple of days, we'll obviously be going through that very carefully," Walsh said.

Both sheriff's deputies involved were put on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

No other details were released.

Thug attacks old man, old man kills thug with a knife

The harrowing moment Manhattan bodega worker Jose Alba was apparently stabbed himself while fending off and fatally slashing a violent ex-con who attacked him. In the chilling footage, Alba, 61, battles back and slashes career criminal Austin Simon inside the Manhattan bodega July 1 — as the former convict’s girlfriend appears to pull a knife from her purse and stab the worker. Simon was later pronounced dead, while Alba was charged with his murder. The footage provides a new view of the bloody exchange. Simon’s unidentified girlfriend has not been charged in the case. The new footage shows Simon, 35, from a different angle going behind the counter and confronting Alba, who then scuffles with the younger man and pulls a knife from a candy shelf. Alba is seen repeatedly stabbing Simon and, after a few moments, the woman who has been identified as Simon’s girlfriend appears to take a knife from her purse and stab the worker. Police sources said Alba was stabbed during the assault but that the girlfriend denied to cops that she knifed him. The bodega clerk’s lawyer said during his arraignment last week that Simon’s girlfriend stabbed the worker three times in the shoulder and hand. The new footage shows Simon then laying to the back of the register in a pool of blood. Alba is seen in the background still holding the bloody knife. The girlfriend is seen crying and seems to be attempting to revive Simon at one point. Police arrive and take Alba, who suffered apparent stab wounds to the shoulder, into custody. The video comes after earlier surveillance clips showed Alba getting thrown into a wall by Simon, and another of Alba pleading with the younger man after he storms in. “Papa, I don’t want a problem,” Alba says in one of the earlier clips. The hard-working immigrant was charged with second-degree murder and ordered held on $250,000 bail until prosecutors negotiated a $5,000 bond last week

A police patrol led to the death of Rota soldier Samuel Wesley Cosmo, who was shot in the face in the Bom Retiro neighborhood of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon (3), and the officer's death was confirmed after he was rescued and taken to Santa Casa.

A body camera belonging to Private Cosmo captured the exact moment of the confrontation. In the images, it is possible to see the MP and two other officers advancing armed through the community in a routine operation against drug trafficking. While entering an alley, Cosmo comes across a man dressed in blue, who shoots him in the face and runs away. The shot hit the policeman in the right eye, leading to fatal consequences.

A cell phone, a pistol magazine and a case of 9mm ammunition were seized at the scene of the incident. The Santos Homicide Police Station is leading the investigation into the case.

In response, the São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) announced that it was carrying out Operation Shield, aimed at cracking down on crimes against the security forces and capturing those involved in the murder of Private Cosmo.

Security Secretary Rodrigo Garcia said that the state government would give its full support to the police officer's family and pledged to make every effort to ensure that the crime does not go unpunished. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas also expressed his solidarity with Samuel's family and friends, reinforcing his commitment to identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack.

Private Samuel Wesley Cosmo's wake is being held at Rota headquarters in downtown São Paulo, marking a time of mourning and tributes to his service and dedication.
