A 34-year-old man, who was riding a high-powered motorcycle, was killed after his machine crashed into the rear of a pick-up truck at Km98.6 of the East Coast Highway Phase 1 (LPT), near the Lanchang exit here yesterday.
In the 4.45pm incident, the pick-up truck abruptly stopped in its attempt to avoid crashing into a woman crossing the highway in the area.
The motorcycle rider, identified as Mohd Haziq Ramli, who is a musician attached to Kuala Lumpur City Hall, died on the spot during the accident.
Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said preliminary investigation showed the accident was believed to have occurred after 35-year-old woman driving a jeep stopped by her vehicle by the roadside before crossing the highway.
"As a result of her actions, the pickup truck abruptly stopped when the woman was crossing the road. At the same time, a motorcycle coming from behind crashed into the rear of the pickup truck," Mazlan said in a statement.
Due to the impact of the crash, the motorcycle rider fell in the fast lane of the highway while his machine was thrown onto the rear of the pickup truck.
Police, said Mazlan, have arrested the woman, who is from China, to facilitate investigation into the accident.

Kota Samarahan, Malaysia
A factory operator lost his life yesterday (April 24) afternoon after his motorcycle was hit by a car at the Kilometre 16 traffic light on Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa.
According to TV Sarawak (TVS), the 43-year-old victim from Batu 21 Jalan Penrissen succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene of the incident while the 27-year-old driver, who is a university student, did not sustain any injuries.
The Kota Samarahan District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a report regarding the incident at 5.30pm, said the Kota Samarahan District Police Chief DSP Jaimi Husin.
Jaimi said that the accident was believed to have taken place when the motorcyclist was travelling from Kota Samarahan, heading to 7th Mile.
“He (the motorcyclist) was hit by a car that was moving along the straight road from 8th Mile to Kota Samarahan.
“According to the driver of the car, the traffic light was green. After the collision, the motorcyclist fell on the road,” said Jaimi in a statement yesterday.
The motorcycle was damaged on the front left side whereas the car was damaged on the front right side.

Lohardaga, India
Two persons were killed and around 25 injured when a van rams into a crowd at a Ram Navami procession in Lohardaga town on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Bajrang Sahu (35) of Bakshi Dipa locality and Soni Kumari (18) of Riyada area of Lohardaga town.
deputy commissioner (DC) Waghmare Prasad Krishna and superintendent of police (SP) Haris Bin Zaman rushed the injured to sadar hospital and Rims.
The SP said, “The van has been seized and its driver has been taken into custody.” The accident occurred at Rana Chowk of Lohardaga town. Soon the Kendriya Mahabir Mandal announced end of all procession in the district in view of the incident.

Taman Serai Wangi, Malaysia
A teenage girl was killed and her friend seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding skidded and hit a wall of a supermarket in Taman Serai Wangi, Padang Serai here, this afternoon.
The victim. identified as Nurin Balqis Mohamad Zakri, 18, died at the scene due to severe head injuries.
Kulim district police chief Superintendent Mohd Azizul Mohd Khairi said in the 12pm incident the victim was riding her Honda Vario motorcycle with her friend when she is believed to have lost control and crashed.
He said the motorcycle the girls rode from the direction of Jalan Serai Wangi 5 to Jalan Serai Wangi 10 crashed upon nearing a supermarket located in a row of shoplots.
The motorcycle ridden by Nurin Balqis had allegedly hit the concrete slab of a drain, before crashing into the wall of the supermarket.
"As a result of the accident, the motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene," he said when contacted today.

Corey Scott was a motorcycle stuntman from Indiana that specialized in precision driving. On February 8th 1997 Scott was performing a stunt at Orange Bowl stadium in Miami, Florida. The stunt called for Scott to grab onto a large net after jumping a ramp on his motorcycle. He made the jump but didn't manage to grab hold of the net, and fell 60 feet to his death. When Scott hit the ground, he landed on his head and broke his neck.
