Two persons were killed and around 25 injured when a van rams into a crowd at a Ram Navami procession in Lohardaga town on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Bajrang Sahu (35) of Bakshi Dipa locality and Soni Kumari (18) of Riyada area of Lohardaga town.

deputy commissioner (DC) Waghmare Prasad Krishna and superintendent of police (SP) Haris Bin Zaman rushed the injured to sadar hospital and Rims.

The SP said, “The van has been seized and its driver has been taken into custody.” The accident occurred at Rana Chowk of Lohardaga town. Soon the Kendriya Mahabir Mandal announced end of all procession in the district in view of the incident.

A man identified as Cleiso and his daughter – a child of just one year old – were shot dead this Sunday afternoon (21), in the municipality of São Bernardo, 370 km from São Luís. The double homicide took place in the early evening in the Morro da Arabia neighborhood.

According to initial information, at around 5pm, Cleiso was holding the child when two men arrived on a motorcycle. Upon getting out of the vehicle, one of the men shot at the father and daughter, hitting 11 shots on the adult and six on the child. The father died at the scene, and the child was taken to the hospital, but according to the medical team, he arrived at the health unit dead. After the crime, the perpetrators fled.

A 34-year-old man, who was riding a high-powered motorcycle, was killed after his machine crashed into the rear of a pick-up truck at Km98.6 of the East Coast Highway Phase 1 (LPT), near the Lanchang exit here yesterday.

In the 4.45pm incident, the pick-up truck abruptly stopped in its attempt to avoid crashing into a woman crossing the highway in the area.

The motorcycle rider, identified as Mohd Haziq Ramli, who is a musician attached to Kuala Lumpur City Hall, died on the spot during the accident.

Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said preliminary investigation showed the accident was believed to have occurred after 35-year-old woman driving a jeep stopped by her vehicle by the roadside before crossing the highway.

"As a result of her actions, the pickup truck abruptly stopped when the woman was crossing the road. At the same time, a motorcycle coming from behind crashed into the rear of the pickup truck," Mazlan said in a statement.

Due to the impact of the crash, the motorcycle rider fell in the fast lane of the highway while his machine was thrown onto the rear of the pickup truck.

Police, said Mazlan, have arrested the woman, who is from China, to facilitate investigation into the accident.

A Nigerian filmmaker, identified as Adebayo Adeseko, has reportedly committed suicide after killing his girlfriend, Sarah Adesanya, in the Ojodu area of Lagos State.

The duo had a misunderstanding and were seen by neighbours arguing profusely when Bayo allegedly beat Sarah to death before ending his life.

In a video making rounds online, the couple could be seen lying dead in a pool of their blood.

According to Sarah's sister, Layor, in a post via X, a neighbour had in June 2023 hinted to her about the travails that Sarah was going through at the hands of her boyfriend, noting that she was constantly being subjected to assault.

Layor said she confronted her sister about the issue, but she denied the claim, adding she also reported the matter to the Nigerian police, but they told her that nothing could be done until Sarah reported the incident.

Confirming the incident to LIB, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the couple, Adebayo Adeseko, 30, and Adesanya Sarah, 36, were found dead at the home in the Ojodu area of the state today.

He said investigation has commenced to unravel the true circumstances leading to their death.
