"A 77-year-old man shot dead two environmental protesters on Wednesday in an apparent outburst of rage over a roadblock in Panama.

The gunman was named in local media as Kenneth Franklin Darlington Salas. If he is convicted, Mr Salas could be sentenced to house arrest rather than being sent to jail because of his age.

The protesters, who were opposed to a controversial mining contract, had blocked the Pan-American Highway in Chame, 51 miles from the capital Panama City.

Footage posted on social media showed the motorist walking from his car, demanding the protesters get out of the road.

Initially, Mr Salas removed tyres which were obstructing the road. The protesters, according to witnesses, shouted at the man: “Are you going to kill someone?”

The gunman replied: “You want to be the first?”

UNJHA (Gujarat): Police are searching for two TV journalists after they were booked for allegedly instigating a 29-year-old man to commit suicide on August 13. The journalists, employed by a local channel, allegedly wanted dramatic footage of the incident.

Kalpesh Suthar, a carpenter, set himself on fire on the premises of Unjha town police station in protest against the atrocities he suffered when he was in the lock-up. He later died in hospital. Police had picked him up on the basis of a complaint filed by his stepmother, Chandrika, in a property dispute. Once he was out of the lock-up, Suthar accused the cops of beating him up.

Investigating officer TK Patel is inquiring into Suthar’s death. The two journalists — Kamlesh Rawal and Mayur Rawal — reportedly convinced Suthar to set himself ablaze to "attract national media attention."

Suthar’s mobile phone records showed that the journalists had rung him that day from Unjha police station.

Teashop owner Bhuraji Thakore, who was an eyewitness, told police the two reporters had told him that Suthar would pour kerosene over himself and set himself on fire for their footage. But they had insisted the flames would be immediately put out.

Thakore said the journalists continued to shoot as the man burnt to death. They even prevented him from saving Suthar, Thakore said.

A 10-year-old boy has been arrested in China for placing his grandmother in a headlock chokehold and strangling her to death.

In a viral video circulating online, the grandmother can be seen slapping the boy in the head twice before he punches her in the chest and grabs her by the neck.

The boy places his grandmother in a headlock chokehold and wrestles her to the floor as she repeatedly hits him with a slipper in an attempt to escape.

The individual recording the video can be heard laughing as the boy shouts that he is always beaten by his grandmother. The elderly woman eventually stops moving and the person recording tells the boy to let her go.

“Get up, you crushed grandma to death, don't press it,” the person recording says in the video. “She won't hit you anymore, let go quickly.”

When the boy lets go, a middle-aged woman carrying a child on her back appears and repeatedly beats the boy with a stick while telling him, “Your grandma is dead.”

The video ends with the boy pleading for his grandmother to get up while the woman continues to beat him.

The 10-year-old was reportedly instigated by his friends to fight against his grandmother. Along with his three companions, the boy was arrested in Lalatun, Haicheng Town in Zhaodong City, Heilongjiang.
