On August 22nd, 1999, a China Airlines MD-11 crashes while attempting to land in a typhoon at Hong Kong. Just before landing on the runway, the aircraft banked right and its wingtip struck the ground. The aircraft rolled onto its back and skidded. It stopped upside down. There was an immediate fire near the rear of the aircraft. Among the 315 people onboard, 3 were killed.

At 18:41, while flying the runway 25L ILS approach, weather was reported to the crew being 1600 m visibility in the touchdown zone, wind 320deg/25 knots gusting to 33 knots. The aircraft was then cleared to land. At an altitude of 700 feet prior to touchdown a further wind check was passed to the crew: 320deg/28 knots gusting to 36 knots. Maximum crosswind component limit for the aircraft was 24 knots. The pilot-in-command continued with the approach, disconnected the autopilot but left auto throttle engaged. The MD-11, with a weight very close to the maximum landing weight permitted, stabilized slightly low on the glide slope. At 50 feet above the runway, upon power reduction to flight idle, the airspeed decreased from 170 to 152 knots. An attempt was made to flare in a slightly right wing down (less than 4 deg) attitude. The aircraft landed hard on its right main gear and the no. 3 engine touched the runway. The right main gear separated and the right wing separated. The MD-11 then rolled inverted as it skidded off the runway in flames. It came to rest on a grass area next to the runway, 1100 m from the runway threshold. The right wing was found on a taxiway 90 m from the nose of the plane.

The crash sequence in this case bears similarities to a Fedex MD-11 which also flipped upside down on landing at Newark.

NOTE: For those of you wondering why so few people died, here are two other perspectives from which you can see that the plane “slid” rather than “slammed” into the ground, if you can understand it, because it's a bit wobbly when you put it like that. This also explains why so few people died in the accident, and shows how safe the plane was and how quickly the passengers got out.

A similar story with Asiana Airlines Flight 214 where only 3 people died, because the plane also slid and the rescue time was fast, as was the evacuation.

73 years old man in Ford was overtaking car with dash cam. The route was straight and the visibility was great.

Suddenly, while still on the oncoming lane, he lost control and crashed into UAZ coming from the opposite direction.

One witness said:

After overtaking, he was driving on the oncoming lane for the next 30 meters. There was enough space and time to get back on his lane.

I'd say that he was distracted by something. He was checking his phone or rear view mirror.

When he saw oncoming UAZ, he slammed on his brakes, swerved and crashed.

Ford driver and 41 years old female UAZ passenger died on spot. UAZ driver was injured.

A mother (in her 40s) and daughter (in her 20s) were struck by a jeep Cherokee after it was speeding and running a red light. It side swiped another car. The mother was killed instantly and the daughter died later in the hospital. The driver was hospitalized along with the other passengers in the car.

Near Laughlin, Nevada State Police have identified the driver who caused a deadly crash near Laughlin, Nevada that killed three motorcyclists from Utah over the weekend.

Claude Rafiki, 29, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was identified as the driver of the 2020 Freightliner semi-tractor that collided with two motorcycles on Saturday, March 23.

A preliminary investigation found that the Freightliner semi was traveling westbound on SR163 when it crossed the unprotected center median and into the eastbound travel lane, which the motorcyclists were traveling in.

As a result, two riders and one passenger all from Saint George, Utah, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and were pronounced deceased on-scene.

They have been identified as Jeremy George Gebo, a 44-year-old male, Owen Merrell Hart, a 22-year-old male, and Athena Faye Taylor, a 21-year-old female.

Rafiki was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of impaired driving and other related charges.

NEW YORK — A horrifying new video shows the moment a pedestrian was ran over twice in Queens on Saturday night.

Dashcam video of the incident shows a white SUV first knock the person over as they crossed the street at the corner of Cypress Avenue & Cooper Avenue. A black truck tailing the white SUV then runs over the pedestrian's head, the footage shows.

Whether the vehicles involved stopped and pulled over following the disturbing accident is unknown.

No further details about the incident or the victim's condition were released at the time of this report. (Won't be hard to assume if you have eyes)

33 years old man was driving DAF truck with Schmitz trailer towards Saint Petersburg.

40 years old man in his Land Rover was also driving in the same lane towards Saint Petersburg.

Truck crashed into the back of Land Rover, causing it to roll over and fell into pieces.

Land Rover driver wasn't wearing seatbelt and he died on spot.

At first the truck driver tried blaming the victim by saying that:

While DAF was overtaking Land Rover, the offroader lost control, crashed into a barrier and later into DAF's trailer.

His version was debunked by CCTV footage.

A 19-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Irfan A., was killed when he crashed on the Kulim-Butterworth Highway in Penang.

Dashcam footage showed that the biker was travelling on the emergency lane when a truck driver switched onto the lane. The biker was hit by the truck, and then collided into the barrier, nearly ripping off one of his arms. Reportedly, the motorcycle lane on the highway was shut for maintenance work.

Although he remained conscious at the scene, Irfan died in hospital.

Driver of Volkswagen Jetta tried overtaking truck with dashcam on the right.

He lost control, drove onto oncoming lane and crashed head on into Cherry Tigo.

One Volkswagen passenger died on spot. Both drivers and four passengers of both car were injured.

An accident on Kendall Public Road in East Berbice Tuesday morning claimed the life of Ajay Ramchand, a 43-year-old motorcyclist.

The accident involved Motor Lorry #GAC 9627, driven by Leroy Jacobs, a 48-year-old of New Amsterdam, Berbice, and motorcycle #CK 5854, owned and driven by Ramchand of Ramphal Street, Nigg Settlement, Corentyne Berbice.

A statement from Police Headquarters noted that the lorry was proceeding east along the public road at a rate of about 65 KMP/H when motorcycle # CK 5854, which was proceeding in the opposite direction, overtook a car and, in the process, collided with the front of the lorry.

As a result of the collision, the motorcycle burst into flames.

The motorcyclist received injuries and was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens. He was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead.

The body is at the New Amsterdam Hospital's Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The Lorry driver is presently in custody, assisting with the investigation

The accident that claimed the life of the Finnish rally co-driver Pasi Mielonen occurred during the third and last stage of the 1999 Salpausselkä-ralli.

It happened on Saturday, 29 May 1999. On the approach to a right bend on a gravel road, the Ford Escort Mk1 #57 driven by Jouni Hyyrynen went out of control, speared off the track, overturned and crashed into a tree on it's roof. The car's entire roof and roll cage was shredded. Severely injured Jouni Hyyrynen eventually recovered, his co-driver Pasi Mielonen was killed upon impact.

After the accident the rally, which was a national event, was immediately stopped. In 1999 the Finnish federation introduced in some rallies the so-called "safety notes", notes without any signal on the roads. The competitors had a road book with only distances from the start of the stage. So the teams had to carry trip-meters which would have counted the distances of corners, junctions and crossroads. It was reported that the bend in which the fatal accident happened, was not signaled on the "safety notes" and this conduced to much discussion about them. Alsoin consequence of this accident the "safety notes" try-out was abandoned.

A security camera has emerged regarding the accident in which the truck driver was hit by a forklift while reversing at a cement factory in Isparta and lost his life.

The accident occurred on November 25 at the Göltaş Cement Factory in the Gönen district of Isparta. According to the information obtained, SY (30), who works as a forklift driver, hit the truck driver Erol Saygıvar (61) while reversing while driving the forklift.

Following the notice, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region. It was determined that the truck driver, who was stuck between the truck and the forklift, died at the scene upon check by medical teams

Sofian Kiyine suffered a horrific crash as his car flew off the road and into the air before smashing through the wall of a sports hall in Belgium.

The OH Leuven player seemed to lose control of his car at a roundabout in Liege, Belgium, on Thursday evening and ended up smashing through the walls of a sports hall at high speed, leaving a huge hole in the building.

Kiyine was rushed to hospital, with his condition described as non-life threatening. Leuven, who are owned by Leicester City owners King Power, released a statement which read: "Kiyine was taken to the emergency department of the nearest hospital where further examinations are taking place.
