A tragic risk taker in Durban, South Africa, climbed out of the sunroof of a moving vehicle to car surf and sadly lost his life just seconds later when he lost his balance and fell, breaking his neck.
The horrific 25-second video, taken by a passenger in a following car, shows the soon-to-be-victim getting onto the roof of a Volkswagen Polo, and raising himself to his feet. The barefoot man then appears to find his balance, and points his arms skywards… but after just five seconds, he falls and somersaults off the back of the car, landing head first.
Tragically, it’s reported he broke his neck and died instantly.
There has been a mixture of sympathy and a lack thereof, with over 850 comments on Arrive Alive’s website after the video went viral. The shocking footage has also made news abroad.
Arrive Alive warned viewers that the video is not for sensitive viewers and said they were posting it to show the types of behaviour that lead to South Africa’s high road fatality rate.
The driver in the car behind can be heard saying: “I don’t know what this oke is doing. He’s lost his mind, lost his mind.”
When the car surfer falls, the driver hoots and says: ”Ja I was waiting for that, I was waiting for that.”
Car surfing involves riding on the roof while another individual drives the car and has resulted in numerous deaths and serious injuries since the craze began in the 1980s.
According to US stats based on newspaper cuttings, 58 car surfers passed away and a further 42 suffered serious injuries in the US between 1990 and 2008.
The South African Police Service’s press office said it could not trace the tragic incident which happened just in front of the Wellington Hotel on the Bluff in Durban, late last week.

Please remove if this isn't allowed on WPD. I am pretty sure that it is though but I am just clarifying. I also tried looking for this vid and I found the exact same one posted 2 months ago.

This took place in Viña del mar, Chile, in December 17th 2021, during an illegal street race.
Kristofer Fallaque was a 39-year-old Peruvian man that moved to Chile looking for better oppotunities for himself and his family; he was married and had a daughter.
In the very early hours of the morning Kristofer tried to cross the Camino Internacional Street; when he attempted to cross the street he was run over by one of the speeding vehicles in the race, a blue BMW, killing him instantly; after running Kristofer over the person driving the BMW tried to flee, but because of state of the vehicle after the impact, they were only able to drive 1km before being stopped by the people that witnessed the incident until the police arrived.
AFTERMATH
(I also found the aftermath of the blue BMW)
The BMW driver was swiftly taken into police custody, and they were later put on house arrest while they awaited trial; i did not find any information on who this person was or what their sentence was but we can assume that they were convicted for involuntary manslaughter, and that carries a sentence of 12 months to 8 years in prison with possibility of perole; it can also include a fine along with the prison sentence (i'm not a lawyer, and i truly hope i did not commit any mistakes while writing this specific part).
PERSONAL NOTE
In every video post i do (excluding Effortposts) i also like to do a little bit of research to give the video some context and if possible a backstory, although in this case i feel like it got a little bit too extensive. This post is not meant to be an Effortpost, because i personally consider it did not take that much effort for me to make (i hope this doesn't sound like i'm bragging or something), but if the admins consider this does count as an effort post then so be it. While i was doing my small research i did not spect the backstory to be this tragic, and this case also really SHOWED me how dangerous an illegal street race can be. In links below there are also statements given by Kristofer's family members and acquaintances, so if you speak spanish i strongly recommend you to checking them.

Lmk if this is a repost
Also, is there a way I can check if my posts are reposts or do I just have to hope it's not?
